Dr Leonie Carmen Reading graduated with a MB BS, from the University of Western Australia in 1977. Whilst completing her degree, she spent time working on a Raine Research scholarship in neuropathology of synaptic development. After graduation, Dr Reading went on to work in clinical areas, including time in haematology at Fremantle Hospital and time in general practice. She completed further training in Specialist Anatomical Pathology in the early 80s, spending her training years working at the QE2 Medical Centre and the Hollywood Repatriation Hospital in Nedlands, Western Australia.

After finishing a Fellowship in Specialist Anatomical Pathology (FRCPA), she worked at the State Health laboratories, before entering into private practice and becoming one of the original Partners in Western Diagnostic Pathology Laboratories. During this time she gained experience in all areas of histopathology, with an interest in breast, gastrointestinal, skin, and lung pathology, and also cytology. Having a special interest in regional pathology, she spent three years working in Darwin, with general supervision of the Alice Springs laboratory during this time.

Dr Reading went on to work at North Queensland Townsville Laboratories as a Locum, and in a permanent position at the Cairns Hospital, before commencing work at the QML Laboratories in Townsville in late May 2016. With many years experience, she is well aware of the problems and challenges of working in a regional laboratory, and maintains her special areas of interest.
