  • 1992 Graduated from University of Newcastle (BMed)
  • Prior to training as a Genetic Pathologist, Dr Caramins was a Clinician with over 15 years' experience, and continues to maintain a strong focus on providing clinically oriented consultation and testing
  • 2001 - 2006: Vocational training as Genetic Pathologist, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown, Sydney and Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, Sydney
  • 2006: Admitted to Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia with a Fellowship in Genetics as Australia’s first graduating Genetic Pathologist
  • 2011: Awarded PhD by thesis, University of New South Wales following submission of a thesis entitled “Quantitative Genetics of Platelet Count”
  • 2008 - 2012: Acting Clinical Director, SEALS Genetics, (Prince of Wales, Sydney Children’s, Royal Hospital for Women Campus), Sydney
  • Conjoint Senior Lecturer in the School of Medical Sciences, University of New South Wales
  • Dr Caramins has contributed to a number of journal articles and book chapters and was involved in the development of a centre for medical genomics within the SEALS Genetics Laboratory. She has been actively involved in teaching both through the University of New South Wales and also in specialist training through the RCPA
  • 2011 - 2013: Ministerial appointment to Membership of the Federal Department of Health and Ageing Genetics Working Party
  • 2012: Member of the Scientific Committee and the Organising Committee for the Human Genome (HUGO) Annual Meeting

Special Interests: Prenatal genetics, adult-onset disorders including oncogenetics, and neurogenetics; implementation of novel diagnostic methodologies; bioinformatics.
