After schooling in India, Dr Pillai went on to complete medicine in Ukraine in 2002. He then completed an internship and junior medical officer posting in Scotland. In 2007 he moved to Australia, where he mainly worked in surgical specialties.
Dr Pillai began anatomical pathology training at Pathwest based in numerous hospitals; including Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital, Princess Alexandra Children’s Hospital, and Fiona Stanley Hospital as well as other histopathology institutions in Perth.
In 2015, Dr Pillai obtained his fellowship in anatomical pathology. He is now based at QML Pathology Benowa and Pathology Queensland Gold Coast Hospital. His special interests include skin, gastrointestinal, gynaecological and haematolymphoid pathology.
