Cervical screening in Australia will change in 2017

The Department of Health has advised that the new National Cervical Screening Program (the Renewal) has a revised implementation date of 1st December 2017. Contrary to previous indications, no transition period is planned. QML Pathology will endeavour to advise practitioners with regards to any further updates.

For further information, please see the 'Documents for Download' section on this page or contact (07) 3121 4444.

The Cytology Pap Smear Audit will close in accordance with the renewal of the National Cervical Screening Program to be implemented 1st December 2017. For further information contact the Education Team.

Postponement of the SELF-COLLECTION testing for the renewed National Cervical Screening Program.
Please note that the National Cancer Screening Register Program Division of the Department of Health has advised all laboratories including QML Pathology, that SELF COLLECTION Cervical HPV Testing should not be offered until all accreditation requirements of TGA and NATA have been met. A national validation of self-collected specimen testing is currently underway and when/if accepted by TGA and NATA, Australian laboratories such as QML Pathology will then be able to conduct their own in-laboratory verification. Until then, self- collected samples cannot be processed by QML Pathology.
Please repeat the sample via Practitioner collect, or if not possible, please repeat self-collection as soon as the National validation is complete
