James is a clinical and laboratory haematologist, who has worked in a variety of private and public, clinical and laboratory settings in several states. He has an interest in transfusion medicine, immunohaematology and molecular genetics related to transfusion.

He is a past president of ANZSBT and past chair of the RCPA haematology advisory committee.
