Withholding Medication

Withholding medication before a test involves temporarily stopping certain medications as instructed by a healthcare provider to ensure accurate test results or prevent interactions that could affect the outcome.

These instructions should be adhered to unless advised otherwise by your doctor.

  • Withhold medication on the day of testing unless advised otherwise by your doctor
  • Take medication as normal on day before test
  • Withhold taking medication until after blood test (it is possible to bring medication into collection centre if preferred)
  • Recommended to have blood test early in morning so that medication regime is not disturbed
  • Minimum withholding period is 8 hours
